Welcome to Jacobs Novels, home of the husband and wife writing team of Terry and Tiffany Jacobs.
We write mainstream/commercial fiction that explores important social issues through the lives of our characters. Our debut novel, Mermaid Drowning, uses conventional family drama to explore the unconventional subject of transsexuality. While the story looks at the physiological and psychological realities that cause a person to be transgendered, that is not the focus of the novel. The story is about love, personal growth, and our common human failings. It is about how our prejudices, and the lies we tell ourselves, can propel us down paths that violate our heart, our faith, our values, and our reason. It is about being human, and the things in life that really matter.
Mermaid Drowning Summary
Evelyn has a husband who adores her, three wonderful children, a fulfilling career, and a past which harbors a secret she denies even to herself. After ten years of a perfect marriage, Evelyn’s husband, Sam, discovers her secret within the pages of a forgotten journal -- his wife was born male. Overwhelmed by a sense of betrayal, he knows he can no longer live with Evelyn and wants her out of his life. As Sam searches through Evelyn's past, looking for a way to gain full custody of their three children, he is forced to look at his unconscious prejudices, while Evelyn must face her fears and a past of violence and death.
